Blocked toilets

A blocked toilet is either the pan itself or the drain it discharges into, and the difference matters because they are very different jobs.

If it is only one toilet, the problem is usually local. If everything in the house is slow, the drain outside is backing up and that is where we will start.

Signs you are looking at this

  • The pan filling and draining away very slowly, or not at all
  • Water rising towards the rim when flushed
  • Gurgling from another fitting when you flush
  • More than one toilet affected, which points outside rather than at the pan

How we deal with it

  1. 01Work out where. One toilet or all of them. That single question decides the whole job.
  2. 02Clear the pan. A closet auger clears the trap of the pan without taking anything off the wall.
  3. 03Or clear the drain. If the run outside is backing up, we clear from the chamber, which is usually faster and always less messy.

What it costs

Hourly from arrival, no call-out charge. The rate runs for the time spent, whether or not the blockage shifts.

When you do not need it

If only one toilet is affected and it is a recent blockage, it is very unlikely to need any excavation or survey work. Be wary of anyone who suggests otherwise on the first visit.

Common questions

What actually blocks a toilet?
In our experience, wet wipes more than anything else, including the ones sold as flushable. They do not break down like paper does and they catch on anything slightly rough inside the pipe.
It is 3am and it is overflowing. Do you come out?
Yes. We answer the phone at any hour and there is no call-out charge. We only charge from arrival.
